My cousin Gayathri got married on the 28th of January 2007. To my whole extended family, this was a huge huge thing, Simply because she's the first girl to be married off. Hindu weddings have a lot of rites and traditional obligations. Let me take u through what i went through myself to see the wedding through.
Fri: Go to her house for a bangle ceremony where each auntie will put some bangles for her and some prayers will be done.. we were there till 12 midnight. Sat night, went to the boy's house , did the same prayers thingie but me, pram and sumi were in charge of decorating their new home's master bedroom for their first night..thats the room we took a picture in.. it was GEORGEOUS. the petals, the candles, the music, the wine.. wooohoo. i'm sure their consummation night would have been fantastic. Left the place around 12 midnight too. Sunday, the wedding was at 9am. We got up soooo early cos my mum had to tie sari's for us..The sari was really nice and it made me look good. thanks to my mum. So the wedding itself lasted till 1pm plus.. we had to come in with the bride with the lights and then stand on stage till the whole thing was over.. wait till all the guests came up on stage to congratulate the couple and then we were the last to eat our lunch.
After the wedding, we proceeded to the bride's house of origin. There, there was a photography session anda final goodbye.. where the girl leaves the home. SIGH, my cuz cried..and so did my aunt..pretty emotional.. then got to proceed on to the boy's home. That one, i managed to "siam" cos some others were not going but by right, need to go la. For both houses, the parents of the newly wed will feed them with milk and banana's..So me and pram took a cab back and we slept.. so well.. and realised we overslept!! We were supposed to go to the newly wed's new home at night for dinner. So we only reached the home at 9! We had dinner and we continued to deco the room.. so the last tradition is to "push" the newly weds into their rooms..but we didnt need to push cos the groom carried the bride into the room.. END OF STORY.
Just like a typical tamil movie right. Singapore still practices it i guess.
Altogether, it was still fun. Very much about FAMILY.
I am sooo tired.. but i'm thankful to be on afternoon shift so i could sleep in a little while more..
