we woke up at 8am today and yet again i was the last to get up and get ready . I really had a fantastic sleep last night. its soooo comfy and i think all that loss of rest and sleep kinda played on me this time round. while travelling out to the summer palace todat, which took an hour..i actually slept sooo well! and dreamt somemore.. and then again at the summer palace when we took some rests.. i slept again! argh.. i had short sleeps like that about 4 times! this si the recovery process and why does it have to happen when i'm in beijing? my theory: cos i had a good sleep after a long time, last night. Anyway so we went to get macdonalds breakfast and took a subway to some placce and then took a bus that took an hour tot he new summer palace..of course, what can i say.. it is indeed scenic and beautiful.. took a boat.. saw some nic elakes and buildings.. didnt wanna go intot he temples but we walked towards it, and mind u, its really high up. well, basically, i walked so much today that i dun wanna walk again in my life. and thats without climbing the great wall yet. or maybe this is pre-great wall cos my feets numb alreayd. ti just moves when it needs to.. but anyway, yeah we took so many pics and then there was this stall that allowed us to take opictures with the empress suit and cap etc.. for 10rmb.. and iw as the only one to do it. think its really cool. and then we took abotu say 4-5 hrs there and moved on towards the old summer palace and had a small tea/ lunch at a tea house nearby. Thats where there was a chinese looking house with a chinese atmopsphere.. learnt o play this chinese board game and lplayed droughts on that board.. we had dumplings and fried rice for lunch. it seems beijing has the best dumplings. hen we went into the old palace but all of our energy was wearing out.. andso we spent abotu 2-3 hrs there.. seeing the ruins.. etc.. had like a bungy ride to the ruins and miniature model of the palace. and there were a few cool sights.. i bought a lot of chinese looking stuff for people ata shop ther.e. like everythings so cheap i couldnt stop buying and i spent all the money i had intended to spend today. its ok, not much anyway. so after the summer palace, we went to this sichuan rstaurant for dinner but i knew it was going to eb expensive and they were going to get funny food like rabbit and what not so i didnt share with them and landed up with fried rice again and got some fried bread with milk or something.. well tis ok but the bill was so little! sigh its ok. and we met Judy, phoe's friemd who had helped us to book the inner mongolia package and then she brought us to Peking university.. the bets uni in China. and also to Qinghua uni.. really looks like a garden.. Beijing is so pretty.. flowers, lights make it a garden city.. there's this imperial feel to it... well, being a history student, i knwo the history of china so its more meaningfult hat way.. plus,we didnt have a guide..so anyway. if i were to teach history, i'd bring my students right up to that historical place and time.there' so much more meaning in it. so after the university,. we took a bus ot he station and that when i slept again and in my fream, i dreamt that i lost my red jacket that was on me and i woke up ina fright and it was true! it was missing so iw alked backwards and found it at the back of the bus. surprised someone didnt take it.. yep and then we proceeded to tianamen square and we were there for about 15 minutes and the lights shut. just in time! lucky! nothing much there just that a week ago on june 4th, i went for the memorial of the tianamen massacre and i was standing on that ground where thousands of students were killed. we headed back after that, managing to catcht he very last train. so its going to be an early night and good sleep! i'm reading my bible on a holiday and it feels great!its so nice t have a bedside lamp. thats what i'll get when i'm back in sing. |
